Supported Microphones

The Fusion Narrate client supports four categories of microphones.

USB Handheld Microphones

These types of microphones are connected via USB cable to the workstation. They provide buttons to control the recording state as well as other operations within the Fusion Narrate client. Additionally, the action that each button performs can be assigned within the Fusion Narrate Microphone Button Settings configuration.

It is not necessary to install any drivers or button mapping utilities from the microphone vendor for these microphones to work since all necessary functionality is built into the Fusion Narrate client.

The following list represents all of the microphone button models officially supported by the Fusion Narrate client. Additional models within these same brands may also work but are not routinely tested by Dolbey.

Olympus® RecMic II RM-4110S (Slideswitch)
® RecMic II RM-4000P (Pushbutton with a,b,c buttons)
® RecMic II RM-4010P (Pushbutton)
Nuance PowerMic II
Nuance PowerMic II Scanner
Nuance PowerMic III
SpeechMike Premium 3500 (Pushbutton)

SpeechMike Premium Air 4000 (Pushbutton)
SpeechMike Premium Air 4010 (Slideswitch)
SpeechOne Wireless Dictation Headset PSM6000 (with optional SpeechOne Remote and Docking Station)

♦♦Unless there is a strong preference, Dolbey recommends the Pushbutton microphone models over the Slideswitch models for ease of use.
♦♦The SayIt from Dolbey client supports a subset of the above microphones and does not support the ability to configure what each microphone button does. See the following link for the list of recommended microphones for this client.

Other USB Microphones

USB microphones that do not have buttons can also be used with the Fusion Narrate client. For example VEC SoundTech Gooseneck Microphones: GN-USB and GN-USB-2 can also be used. Based on the operating system and the type of microphone, a recording gain boost may have to be configured in Windows® Control Panel – Sounds (if available) to pass the Microphone Setup and Tuner and to achieve good recognition results. Since these types of microphones do not have buttons, recording and voice shortcuts have to be initiated with voice commands, function keys, or foot pedals.

♦♦While other USB wireless microphones may work with the Fusion Narrate client they are not officially supported.

Built-in Device Microphones

Some devices such as tablets and laptops have integrated microphones. Generally, these types of microphones do not have effective noise cancelation features to meet the demands of front-end speech recognition. The Fusion Narrate client can be used with these types of microphones, but results may vary. Additionally, it is necessary to use the Fusion Narrate Tablet Control Pad to control recording.

Wireless Headsets (including Bluetooth and DECT)

These types of microphones pair with a workstation, laptop, or tablet via Bluetooth or via some other wireless technology. There are many brands and models in the marketplace. It is important to find one that specifically states that it is designed for use with speech recognition. The following are models that Dolbey has tested for use.

Plantronics Voyager Legend UC Bluetooth Headset
Sennheiser SD Pro 1 – Single Sided Wireless Headset
Sennheiser SD Pro 2 – Single Sided Wireless Headset
SpeechOne Wireless Dictation Headset* (with SpeechOne Docking Station)

Wireless Microphone (iOS and Android application)

This is an app that runs on iOS and Android devices called the SayIt Wireless Microphone. This app is specifically designed to integrate with the Fusion Narrate client and the SayIt from Dolbey client. It allows one to use this device as a microphone instead of purchasing and connecting a dedicated microphone device.
